Hi Dave

Thanks for the great article, I had been searching high and low for GOOD linkbait ideas and yours proved very useful. I had always envisioned linkbait to be complex and time consuming (i.e. a game or video) but in truth, and as your article somewhat proves, you can just write a relevant and catchy article.

I have been experimenting with these ideas for a client of mine that sells kitchen and bathroom tiles. I set up a blog and wrote some posts that were, in a way related to the subject matter, but targeted at more general users. Take a look: http://www.discounttilecentreltd.com/blog and if you get chance, let me know what you think. I love the creative element in linkbait and if these posts succeed then I'll definitely be writing more. Thanks again!

Great article and I concur on a lot of the information being shared. I'd just add that you shouldn't get too caught up on being "link bait" to the point of wanting tremendous links or traffic. Create something engaging and people will find it if properly promoted and most importantly: know your audience! For us, that's fellow SEOs, and thus this Top 10 list was born: http://www.verticalmeasures.com/search-optimization/seo-celebrity-look-alikes.

Thanks for the great link bait examples!

No worries, Gareth. Your link is relevant so I welcome it. And thanks to everyone else's positive comments as well. I swear I'm still planning to finish part 2!

Linkbaiting is really hard, but when you get it right the links can be great.

I've just researched some linkbait posts on top domains to see how many links they attracted...interesting reading (sorry for link drop...but feel valuable to users!)

Great post. I love tangible examples of linkbait. I think it's getting harder and harder to come up with unique linkbait ideas, and even harder to pitch them to an increasingly cynical audience.
