In my perspective link building should not be limited only to aquiring back links from external sources. A good way of improving your site's ranking power is to leverage your own content webpages.

Link juice/Authority passed between webpages from the same domain are just as valuable as that coming from other related websites.

This type of practice is better called in SEO as Silo-structuring a website and the core idea behind it is to separate the site into individual, ISOLATED categories or topics and then conduct link building campaigns for each of these sections or silos.

One thing to keep in mind is to heavily interlink webpages from the same category. References to other categories should be made only through links pointing to that category landing page and not to webpages within the category.

That's the short version of this silo structure strategy. Hope it helps!

Cheers,
Cristian

I am rubbish at link building which is something I definitely need to work on.

I tend to link my related sites together. Would it be better to link Site A to Site B, Site B to Site C and Site C to Site D and then Site D to Site A.

Or link each site to all the other sites e.g. Site A to Sites B,C & D

Thank you for a great article. It will absolutely be useful for those e-marketers who is just starting a link building campaign. I've been doing some SEO for our company's website so I know how links are important, and in particular, links with a well written anchor text.
